A job completed with Belzona. This describes what the Belzona system does and how it goes on, not a record of a specific project by this distributor.

The challenge

Transfer chutes, hoppers, and a slurry pump wore through fast at the high-impact and high-velocity points. The steel thinned, holes opened, and material started leaking onto the structure below. Each failure forced an unplanned shutdown, and the rebuild interval kept getting shorter. The plant needed the wear faces to last longer between repairs.

The Belzona approach

Each component is assessed to separate sliding abrasion from direct impact, because the two wear patterns call for different protection. The substrate is blasted, the thinned and holed steel is rebuilt back to profile, and the wear faces are lined with an impact- or abrasion-resistant composite. Where the part flexes or sees repeated impact, a cold-applied elastomer goes on instead. The work is matched to the actual wear so the new surface holds up where the old steel failed.

  1. Assess wear patternThe chutes, hoppers, and pump are inspected to identify whether each face fails by sliding abrasion or direct impact.
  2. Surface prepThe steel is blasted to a clean, profiled surface so the rebuild and lining bond properly.
  3. Rebuild worn steelHoles are filled and the thinned sections are rebuilt back to their original profile.
  4. Line the wear facesEach face is lined with an impact- or abrasion-resistant composite, or a cold-applied elastomer where flexibility matters.
  5. Return to serviceThe lined components cure and are inspected, then handed back ready to run.

The result

  • Worn steel rebuilt in place without replacing the chutes, hoppers, or pump housing
  • Wear faces lined and matched to the actual abrasion or impact pattern
  • Holes and material leaks sealed at the points that were failing
  • Longer interval between rebuilds, with fewer unplanned shutdowns
