Evaporator Vessel Hygienic Lining
Corroded evaporator vessel rebuilt and finished with a smooth, cleanable lining for hygienic product contact.

A job completed with Belzona. This describes what the Belzona system does and how it goes on, not a record of a specific project by this distributor.
The challenge
An evaporator vessel that holds product runs hot and wet, and over time the interior surface corrodes and pits. As the steel breaks down, the surface roughens and metal loss spreads across the walls, and that rough, pitted face traps residue and holds onto soil that cleaning cannot fully reach. In a process where the surface touches product, that is a hygiene problem as much as a corrosion problem, and it puts the vessel at risk of being pulled from clean service. The owner needed the interior brought back to a sound, cleanable condition without replacing the vessel.
The Belzona approach
The vessel comes back in two parts, the substrate and the finish. First the interior is blasted to clean, profiled steel and the pitted and corroded areas are rebuilt cold with a Belzona 1000 Series composite, restoring the wall profile so there is sound steel under the lining. Then a Belzona 5000 Series lining keyed to the process goes on and is finished smooth, so the surface contacting product is continuous and cleanable rather than rough and pitted. The interior is worked in stages to keep the application moving, and the vessel goes back ready for clean service.
- Assess and mapThe interior is inspected to locate pitting and metal loss and confirm the process so the rebuild and lining are matched to the duty.
- Blast to clean steelGrit-blasting takes the interior to a clean, profiled surface so both the composite and the lining bond to bare steel.
- Rebuild the substrateA Belzona 1000 Series composite rebuilds the pitted and corroded areas cold, restoring the wall profile with no hot work.
- Apply the hygienic liningA Belzona 5000 Series lining goes over the rebuilt steel and is finished smooth for a continuous, cleanable product-contact surface.
- Inspect and return to serviceThe finished lining is checked and the vessel is turned back over to the owner ready for clean process service.
The result
- Corroded interior brought back to a sound, cleanable condition without replacing the vessel
- Pitting and metal loss rebuilt in place cold, with no hot work
- Smooth, continuous lining applied for hygienic product contact in place of the rough, pitted steel
- Vessel returned to clean process service by factory-trained and factory-certified Belzona applicators
